Whole Foods porn

I'll probably regret the title after I start getting strange google searches, but it's accurate.

I had a few items on my grocery list that I couldn't find anywhere else.  So after a tasty lunch with my to die for salad pita, a mini salad, a clementine, and gingerbread herbal tea, it was off to Whole Foods we went.

Shopping fuel

Can I just start by saying that I LOVED how many samples were out today!  Nothing like getting to eat your way through the store!

So anyway, I had a few items on my list, and a few to research.  I was eager to start the search.  Irish was eager to get done, but he tried to be a good sport about it.  He's pretty amazing like that.

He was hoping to find an egg substitute so he could cross one more thing off his list of reasons why he wouldn't consider going vegan.  I knew that Ener-G egg replacer was our best bet, but we couldn't find it.  We'll look again later when we have a little more time.  We're not there yet, we're both just planners!

Here's what we did find:

A couple samples of hemp protein powder to see what we like.  Irish called me "pothead" when I said that I would be the taste tester since I use it almost every day in a breakfast smoothie.  I didn't find that very funny.

But I soon forgot when I picked out a couple delicious sounding hummuses.  Or is it hummusi?

The spelling-- hommus instead of hummus-- made me think of the movie where the guy says hommas with a little phlegm behind it.  I kept wracking my brain to remember the movie, but I can't.  I googled it and asked Irish.  Google doesn't know what I'm talking about, and Irish knows exactly but can't remember the movie either.  So insert your own joke here since mine didn't pan out.  If you know the movie, PLEASE leave it in the comments because it's driving me nuts!

Ok, back to the real star here, the food!

So if I got hummus, Irish got to try gardein.  I told him to consider Katie's advice to think of it as another food to try, not as "tastes like chicken." He thought that was a good plan.

He also wanted to try the soy pudding.  He's not a fan of soymilk, but he thought this would be tasty.  After all, in his wise words, "it has a panda on it, so it's got to be good!"

I also got Greek yogurt for myself.  Not vegan, but it's a good option for me until I settle on another lunch item that fits the bill.  I also plan to try the tofu/frozen fruit mix that Katie concocted as a faux yogurt.

Chia seeds-- we've hunted these for probably over a year. I'm glad they're stocked in our area finally.

Aaaand then let's say that we had a couple final items that got such rave reviews that they made the list.

Our very first kabocha.  I spied it right from the start, but was concerned about cost because I'd heard they were pretty costly.  Must have been a sale, though, because it was just $.49/lb!  Guilt-free test squash.

And finally, the super starlet.  Our priciest splurge, but a sweet woman at WF let us sample before we bought.  Irish doesn't like coconut, but even he liked it.  I'll be eager to crack it open and start experimenting!

After we finished at Whole Foods, we swung by Target to see if they had any of the cute clearanced shoes that I saw online.  Bonus: they're vegan!  I didn't have any luck, so I'll have to order online.

Once we got home, I was hungry again and eager to break out some of our new tasty goodies.  I decided to try the artichoke spinach hummus.  I had 2 whole wheat pitas left, so I went to town.

Umm, or gorged is more like it.  Irish didn't have any, so I did all that damage!  He finally requested that I please return it to the fridge so we had some left for tomorrow.

Meaning, I want to try some dangit!  I returned the last little morsels to the fridge (but only because he asked after I had finished the last bit of pita anyway).  More goodness tomorrow!

What is your favorite food splurge?  How do you recommend I eat our very first kabocha?
